“Promise Yourself

 “Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

The Hug

The Hug!
It's wonderous what a hug can do.
A hug can cheer you when you're blue.
A hug can say, "I love you so,"
Or, "Gee, I hate to see you go."
A hug is, "Welcome back again."
And, "Great to see you! Where've you been?"
A hug can soothe a small childs pain,
and bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There's just no doubt about it-
we scarcely could survive without it!
A hug delights and warms and charms.
It must be why God gave us arms.
A hug can break the language barrier,
and make your travels so much merrier.
No need to fret about your store of 'em,
the more you give, the more there's more of 'em.
So stretch those arms without delay
and give someone a hug today!

Rocks and Sand
A philosophy professor stood before his class and had some items in
front of him. When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks
about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them
into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course,
rolled into the open areas between the rocks.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and
poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this is
your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your
partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important
to you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed.
"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your
house, your car.
"The sand is everything else. The small stuff.
"If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the
pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend
all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have
room for the things that are important to you.
"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your
partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean
the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

"Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set
your priorities. The rest is just sand."

Let us tell you what the benefits of hugs are:

  •  A hug reduces heart disease, so if you give at lease one or two each day, you're certainly giving your heart a favor.

  •  A hug minimizes stress, so this is best given to your bosses and office mates inside your workplace.

  •  A hug gives one long life, so if you want longer bonding time with your loved ones, start giving them your warm hug.

  •  A hug lowers blood pressure simply because hugging is far from making you feel angry or irate, which is, most of the time, the root of high blood pressure.

  • Lastly, a hug lowers heart rate since it"s  one of the most relaxing gestures we could ever show a person.

As the year of 2013 comes to a close, there are so many things over which we can reflect. As I look to thenext year, I turn my eyes skyward and beseech the Lord our God for many things, some which I will share here:

As You continue Your life-giving love and life sa tuig 2014, I pray nga You continue to bless us with health, sustenance, ease, and happiness. As the next year begins, I pray nga You send Your comfort to all those who have lost loved ones. I ask that You bring jobs to the jobless. I ask that You bring shelter to the homeless. I ask that You bring hope to the hopeless.I pray that Your protection be extended to everyone on the earth. Ilabi na guid, I ask that You frustrate all plans to divide on the basis of religion. The agenda of all people of faith – whatever faith they may be – is to do Your work on this earth; to spread peace and mutual respect; to work together to make this world better for all. Lord please stop the forces of division and hatred in our world. You are the only One to do it the best.

Happy 3rd year Anniversary!

To say that I love you doesn't really begin to explain my feelings for you. Our love grown deeper with each passing year. When we got married three years ago. We didn't know what the future would hold, but were excited and confident that whatever it was we would do it together. And we have but it hasn't always been easy. When i think back  to our wedding day i think about how full of hope and love and excitement we were. I think of how we envisioned our lives and there was nothing hard about it! We had no idea.
As i look back over the past three years. I smile over the joys we've experienced and tears well up as i think of the hard times. But its been beautiful life. I like to think that joys we experience are made that much sweeter by the difficulties we've faced. We've been through so much together. I gone through radio therapy treatment endured countless other, hospitalizations procedure and appointments.

We've grown in our faith individually as a couple and as a family. We have always approached each situation together as a team and when feelings have been hurt we have apologized and made things right in our relationship.
Today in our third year anniversary, I realize that we are once again completely unaware of what the next twenty years may hold. But as we continue to walk down that road  i know  that we will be together and you will be right there holding my hand as we walk through the valleys and reach the beautiful mountaintops. And i couldn't imagine  my life any other way.
Palangga-on ta guid ka, madamo salamat sa Banana nga ako ang kamukha he...he...he... and i respect you now and  forever.

All my love,
Nene Joy

My Daily Prayer For you Toto ko.

I pray this prayer for you Toto ko every day in my FLY time and encourage you to do the
same and allow God work on the areas of concern or challenge in our marriage. It’s a
bit lengthy, but isn’t our marriage worth it?

Dear Father, I pray for my husband today, that You may surround him with favor as a shield. (Ps.
5:12) May You open my husband’s ears to hear Your voice; may You open his eyes to see Your guidance: and may You open his heart to receive Your wisdom. May You Give him a spirit of wisdom and of
revelation in the knowledge of You, and may the eyes of his heart be enlightened so that he may know what is the hope of Your calling, what are the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints and what is the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe. (Eph. 1:17-19) I bind the spirits of rebellion, stubbornness and doublemindedness far from my husband in the name of Jesus, that he may be free to walk in Your way, and that he may be stable in his ways. (James.1:8) I pray that You will give my husband fresh insight and inspiration to do his work and that You will renew his strength as the eagle’s. (Isa. 40:31) May you surround my husband with angelic protection in every place he is. (Ps. 91:11)And may You bring victory to him in every place the sole of his foot treads. (Josh. 1:3) May You prosper my husband in every task that he puts his hand to and may he Be fruitful in all he undertakes as he seeks the counsel of wise men and delights and meditates in Your word. (Ps. 1:2) As my husband delights in You, may You give him the desires of his heart. (Ps. 37:3) I bind the spirits of pride, spiritual blindness, self-sufficiency and self-righteousness far from my husband in the name of Jesus, in order that he will give you all the glory for what You are doing in his life. I bind the spirits of philosophy, deception and religious tradition far from my husband in the name of Jesus, so that he will not be deluded or pushed off the path that You have chosen for him. (Col. 2:8) And so that he may attain all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures Of wisdom and knowledge. (Col. 2:2-3) May wisdom enter my husband’s heart and knowledge be pleasant to his soul; may discretion guard him, and understanding watch over him to deliver him from the way of evil. (Prov. 2:10-12) May my husband trust in You with all his heart, and not lean on his own understanding; may he acknowledge You in all his ways, and may You make his paths straight. (Prov. 3:5-6)In the name of Jesus. I also bind the spirits of procrastination, laziness, complacency and foolishnessfar from my husband, so that he will not be delayed or diverted from moving ahead with you in the works that You have already created for him to accomplish. (Eph. 2:10)May my husband not be carnally minded, which is death, but may he be spiritually minded, which is life and peace. (Rom. 8:6) May he be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that he may walk in a manner worthy of You, to please You in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of You; strengthened with all power according to Your glorious might for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience: joyously giving thanks to You, who have qualified us to share in the inheritance of eth saints in light. (Col. 1:9-12)May You give my husband a deep thirst for Your word and may You give him a strong hunger to move in the power of the Holy Spirit. Father, I know that You will lead him into all truth by yourSpirit. (John 16:13) I thank You and praise You and have confidence that since You have begun a good work in my husband, You will complete it. (Phil. 1:6) You will cause my husband to excel in all that he puts his hand to, as I trust You to guide him, since it is not by might, nor by power, but by Your Spirit. (Zech. 4:6) Sharpen my husband’s awareness of spiritual things, so that he will be effective in his role as the spiritual head of our household. (Eph. 5:23) And help me to submit to his leadership in a way that is pleasing to You. (Col. 3:18) May our love abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, and may we be filled with the fruit of righteousness, which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. (Phil. 1:9-11) May the words of his mouth and the meditations of his heart acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, our strength and our Redeemer. (Ps. 19:14) May my husband be slow to anger, and not quick temped. (Prov. 14:29) And may he have a soothing tongue. (Prov. 15:4) May you give my husband his heart’s desire, and not withhold the request of his lips. (Ps. 21:2) May You give my husband to know Your ways, O Lord, may You teach him your paths, and may You lead him in Your truth. (Ps. 25:4-5) May You reveal Your secrets to my husband, and may You make him to know Your covenant. (Ps. 25:14) May You hide my husband in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man, and may You keep him secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. (Ps. 31:20)

Andrew, the apostle

The name Andrew is a Greek name which means “manly” or “of valor.”
Andrew was the brother of Simon Peter and son of Jonah.  He was born in Bethsaida in the province of Galilee and was a fisherman like his brother Peter.
Before he met Jesus, Andrew was a disciple of John the Baptist. However, when John pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God he realized that Jesus was greater and immediately left John, found his brother Peter and became a disciple of Jesus (John 1:25-42). After this Andrew and Peter continued to be fishermen and lived at home until being called permanently by Jesus to be “fishers of men.” (Mt. 4:18f).  Most of what we know about Andrew comes from the Gospel of John.

John reveals Andrew as one who was
constantly bringing people to Jesus.
He began by bringing his brother Peter to Jesus.

Later Jesus is teaching the multitudes on the mountainside and he asks Philip where they could find food to feed the crowd and Philip says “Eight months wages could not buy enough bread” to feed them.It was Andrew who brought the boy with five barley loaves and two fish to Jesus which Jesus miraculously multiplies into enough food to feed everyone.
And it was Andrew who during the Passover Feast brought a group of Greeks (Gentiles) to meet Jesus which prompts Jesus to remark “when I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all men to myself.”
Andrew knew that Jesus came not only to save Israel
but everyone on the earth.
The last time Andrew is mentioned in the Bible is in Acts chapter one where he is listed as one of the witnesses of Jesus’ resurrection and His ascension into Heave

Help me become a better servant.

Dear Lord,

I see now that your people calls for you every minute and every second of the day.

We are weak and only in you are we made new and strong.

Give me all the weight of the world on a platter. Let me progress in this manner.

Thank you for opening up my eyes. I will continue to follow you blindingly because with You as my eyes, I

have nothing to fear.

THE JOYS OF TEACHING

From square one, this idea was a means to an end.  I never aspired to be a teacher nor did I believe I would ever truly enjoy doing it.  But, I wanted to travel and to live in foreign countries.  I shocked myself when I found that I actually enjoyed it more than I ever expected.
I would describe teaching as rewarding, challenging, frustrating, and disappointing.  If you’re a teacher, you probably have this smug look on your face, smiling, because you know already exactly why I’ve chosen these four adjectives.  If you’re not a teacher, let me explain.
I never taught and was given no time to work things out on my own.  At the time, I felt like I was drowning. Now I realize it was a blessing that my two students were as new and as fresh as me.
Teaching is rewarding when each week, during my lesson, I able to see what my students have learned in the small amount of time i’ve spent with them.
My Japanese student Adrian (Japanese Student) came into my class not knowing anything.  Literally.  The first week(s) I taught him how to say “Hello, how are you?”, “My name is….”, “I’m ten years old”.  Over one exhausting months I taught him these basic phrases, numbers, colors, and animals.  This wasn’t enough time to have my students throwing temper tantrums in English, but it was enough for him to go to the zoo and tell him the names of the animals and whether or not those animals can run, jump, swim, or fly.
The moments when my student stops asking for my help to spell “elephant” or he finally ask to go to the bathroom in English, with correct grammar, rather than grunting and pointing is an indescribably rewarding moment.
This moment is very personal, and can’t really be shared with anyone, except for maybe the teacher in the classroom next door trying to accomplish the same thing. My students are too young to realize they couldn’t say these simple things only a few months prior, but I see it, and it makes me proud.
With my youngest students, everything he say, spell, do, read, and know is from me. I’m so proud of my students and the ideas he can express when I consider he could barely tell me how old he is.  Teaching is the most rewarding work experience I’ve encountered.
Being a teacher is challenging each and every day because students don’t give you anything.
They’re not there to help you.  They sit, and wait, for you to give them something meaningful. It’s up to you to provide something worthwhile.  Beginning a lesson with a set of new vocabulary or with complicated grammar rules generally send back some lost, confused, mouth gaping, empty expressions.
The quick realization that it is now my responsibility to not only describe and explain the new concepts, but that I also have to bring them to a deep enough understanding that they are then able to independently use this new information in the future is enough to make my head spin just planning the lesson.  Being a teacher is rewarding when i realize the successes at the end of a long day, but to bring my students to this point of success is the most difficult task I’ve ever faced.
When i was standing in front of them, i see a lot of things.  My studenyante ako na lazy magsulat at magbasa sabihin nya pagod na sya, hungry, or distracted, and bihira lang mg-eager and willing na mag-aral . Minsan they learn by doing, sometimes by listening, sometimes by speaking aloud and learning from their mistakes, and still they want to learn most through writing.  Working with two different nationality of students in one environment is often frustrating more than anything.  It’s impossible to meet everyone’s needs as you feel you should.
They don’t feel frustrated, but you sure do trying to be exactly what each student needs at the time they need it.
After teaching the same students for an extended period of time, I started to grow emotionally attached to some of them.  I looked forward to seeing them each week and I thoroughly enjoyed teaching them as they often made my job easy.  Then it was time for me to leave.  Do adults engrain their relationships a little deeper than young children, or is this a personal trait?  When it was time to say goodbye, I didn’t know what to say or how to handle myself.
It was difficult for me to let go, but the students didn’t seem to have any qualms about it.
They wrote me adorable little notes saying thank you and that I was “the best English teacher they’ve ever had”, napakasarap pakinggan mula sa aking studyante.
Teaching is rewarding.  It’s challenging.  Frustrating is often an understatement.  Letting go is especially difficult on the few days i've faced with it.  Whether it’s an room or classroom, it doesn’t matter, the job i have as a teacher is anything but easy.  But, in reality, none of this matters.  I’ve barely begun my life in the work force and I can tell you now, teaching may be one of the most influential, life altering positions I could have ever accepted.
